Privacy and personal data
This site sets no cookies, carries no advertising and does not track visitors. Below is a detailed account of the little that happens to your data when you visit us.
- No cookies and no analytics.
- Only what you type into a booking request reaches us. Browsing sends nothing.
- There is one external service — the map — and it only loads if you click it.
1. Who handles your data
Genki Douro — Avenida João Paulo II, Lote 7, Loja 1, 5000-198 Vila Real, Portugal. Phone +351 926 450 114.
For anything relating to privacy, just call us or message us on Instagram or Facebook.
2. What this site collects
The information pages — menu, gallery, restaurant, visit — collect nothing. There are no accounts, no basket and no member area, and nothing you browse on them reaches our systems. The one exception is a booking request, described next.
3. If you request a table here
A booking request is the only place on this site where you send us data. We collect only what the request needs: name, mobile number, date, party size, time, requested area and experience, plus anything you add in notes, high chairs and accessibility. We also record the language you used, so we can reply in it.
We do not ask for an email and we do not create an account. The mobile number is used for one thing: sending you the decision on the booking by SMS. Those messages are sent through Twilio, acting as our processor and handling the number only to deliver the message.
The basis for this processing is taking steps at your request ahead of the service. Without a name and a contact number we cannot confirm the booking or tell you if something changes.
While online booking is not active, the reservations page shows only the telephone number and the site sends no data at all.
4. Cookies
The site sets no cookies — not our own, not third-party, not advertising. That is why you will not see a cookie consent prompt: there is nothing to consent to.
5. What is stored on your device
To remember your preferences, the site keeps four values in your own browser's local storage. They hold no personal data, they are not cookies, and they never leave your device.
| Key | What it is for |
|---|---|
| genki-theme | Light or dark mode you picked. |
| genki-menu-view | Book or List view on the menu. |
| genki-book-hint | Whether you have seen the drag-to-turn hint. |
| genki-concept-dismissed | Whether you have dismissed the top notice. |
You can delete them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings. The site keeps working, simply with its defaults.
6. The map and outbound links
The map on the Visit page does not load on its own. Only after you click "Show interactive map" does your browser connect to OpenStreetMap — and from that moment OpenStreetMap knows your IP address and technical browser information, as happens on any site you visit. If you do not click, that connection never happens. You can read the OpenStreetMap privacy policy.
The Instagram, Facebook and Google Maps buttons are ordinary links: they take you to those services only when you click them, and their own privacy policies apply from then on.
7. Hosting and technical logs
As with any website, the server hosting these pages may log the requests it receives — IP address, date and page requested — for technical and security reasons. Those logs are not used to identify you and are not combined with other information.
8. If you contact us
When you call to book a table or order food to go, we note what the service requires — usually a name, a contact number and the order. We use that only to prepare what you asked for and do not share it with third parties for commercial purposes.
If you would rather message us on Instagram or Facebook, that conversation is also stored on those platforms and subject to their rules.
9. How long we keep it
Preferences saved in your browser stay on your device until you delete them. Booking and order details are kept only as long as the service requires and to meet applicable legal obligations, tax rules in particular.
10. Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation you have the right to know what data we hold about you and to request access, correction, erasure, restriction of processing, objection to it, and portability. To exercise any of these rights, just get in touch.
If you believe your data has not been handled properly, you may complain to the Portuguese data protection authority — www.cnpd.pt.
11. Changes to this policy
If we ever add online bookings, visitor analytics or any other service that processes data, this page will be updated before that happens, with a new date at the top.
